Distribution Transformers Energy Conservation Standard

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has mandated minimum efficiencies for most distribution transformer types manufactured in the United States beginning January 1, 2010.

 "The Department has determined that energy conservation standards for liquid-immersed and medium-voltage, dry-type distribution transformers will result in significant conservation of energy, are technologically feasible, and are economically justified. On this basis, the Department is adopting energy conservation standards for liquid-immersed and medium-voltage, dry-type distribution transformers."  1

Sunbelt, in coordination with our distribution transformer suppliers, fully supports the DOE minimum efficiencies and assures full compliance of all new distribution transformers sold by Sunbelt Transformer by 2009 years end.  To achieve this we will instigate quoting and manufacturing cutoff dates to assure our customers that their purchase will fulfill the higher efficiency standards.

 May 1, 2009 we will no longer offer NEW quotes for non-compliant DOE efficiency standard distribution transformers.  This will allow production of NEW non-compliant designs to finish production prior to the next cutoff date.

September 1, 2009 will mark the cutoff of production on any NEW non-compliant DOE efficiency standard distribution transformers.  All NEW distribution transformers starting production after this date will be manufactured using efficiency standard designs.
